Trials in 3D Printing

With the forms in a good place, it was time the start printing. I started with Egyptian paste, since I have had luck with that in the past; however that proved to not be the case this time. It was a new recipe, and was too thin; it also had a bad habit of congealing within the tubes which created blockages. I managed to get one form to work, kind of, but nothing could get any lift up off the ground.

It was a good lesson in many ways, I know now how to make my forms a bit more printer friendly and that my printing medium needs to be significantly thicker. I took the feet a bit shorter for some of the forms and have decided to use terracotta clay instead.

I did do better with the clay, but unfortunately the mixture was still a bit too soft, especially with my forms being slightly more complicated. I was able to get some forms to work, and it is a promising start to this next chapter. I like the way the forms distorted, and I hope to purposely distort them in the future. I want to disrupt the printer to create truly unique forms, instead of perfect copy after perfect copy.
